Getting to Know Roundtable: Morgan Barnhizer

This week, we sat down with Roundtable’s Morgan Barnhizer to talk about her role, learning & development (L&D), and industry trends she finds interesting.

What does your title mean? What do you do for Roundtable?

As an eLearning Developer, I help bring together the content created by our instructional design and project management teams. Once given the blueprint to the course, I help with a range of tasks, including design, asset creation, and creating interactions. Other times, I help with animated video development, user interface (UI) design, and occasional development for 360° virtual reality (VR) courses.

How did you get into L&D?

I more or less stumbled into it. I was part of an internship in high school and through college where I worked at Roundtable. I really found enjoyment from creating interactions and problem-solving when running into difficult challenges within Storyline.

What is a trend in L&D that’s exciting to you?

Gamification. Some of the most interactive and impressive Storyline projects I’ve seen involve gamification that enhances the user experience, creates an element of healthy competition, and better engages learners.

What would you say is the most important part of building a training program?

The most important part of building a training program is making it engaging for the learner. This can be done by incorporating knowledge checks, gamification, polling, Q&As, and many more interactive elements.

Finish the sentence. Learning is essential to an organization because…

… it can strengthen the organization and teams involved. Learning is how organizations continue to grow and adapt.

What is something you have done in this role this year that you are proud of?

I’m really proud of how our team works together and persevered through the pandemic. The trying times just proved how agile and cooperative our team is despite the challenges brought about by remote work.

What are some interesting facts about you?

– I graduated college with degrees in drawing and painting. I love painting animals, especially ones that are typically portrayed as misunderstood.

– I’m a proud cat mom to a tabby named Calamari and a sphynx named Sage.

– I’ve been longboarding for 6 years.
