Getting to Know Roundtable: Rose Robertson

This week, we sat down with Roundtable’s Rose Robertson to talk about her role, Learning & Development, and industry trends.

What does your title mean? What do you do for Roundtable?

I lead the very talented team that creates all of the custom learning content that we deliver to our clients. My team includes Instructional Designers, Graphic Designers, and Project Managers.

How did you get into L&D?

I have an educational background and made the transition to the corporate world facilitating new hire training. From there I learned more about how adults learn and I was hooked. As they say, the rest is history.

What is a trend in L&D that’s exciting to you?

I’m super excited about the newer AR/VR platforms that are now available to be used as part of a training program. Learners have the opportunity to use different modalities to learn skills or job functions in more traditional ways and then take it a step further and get actual practice with AR/VR in a safe environment. It is exciting!!

What would you say is the most important part of instructional design?

First and foremost the most important aspect of Instructional Design is understanding the learning objective. Once we understand that, we have the ability to create engaging learning experiences.

Finish the sentence. Learning is essential to an organization because…

it directly impacts bottom-line business results and is a key factor in employee engagement.

What is something you have done in this role this year that you are proud of?

I’m really proud of the way we have partnered with our clients during this unprecedented time to pivot and rethink the Instructor-Led training programs.

We are working with our clients to create virtual instructor-led sessions that will look and feel different than originally planned, but ultimately will be equally effective and engaging for the learners. It has allowed us to get creative and utilize new platforms and functionality. I’m super proud of the flexibility of my team and the partnership with our clients.
