3 Ways A Blended Learning Program Can Benefit Your Organization

Blended learning is a comprehensive approach to training that brings together traditional and digital learning to create a training program that works for every learner.

It’s important to consider the benefits of blended learning before deciding whether or not it’s the right fit for your organization’s training needs.

3 benefits of corporate blended learning include:

  1. Training is more convenient for learners
  2. Increases engagement by appealing to multiple learning styles
  3. Efficient use of time and money

Do you enjoy learning in a classroom with a large group of learners? Maybe you prefer learning on your own separate from others. Perhaps you’re interested in using advanced technology, like virtual reality, to complete engaging activities.

Well, luckily with blended learning, your learners can have it all! Why pick one learning style when you can incorporate them all into a comprehensive training program that everyone can enjoy?

At Roundtable Learning, our team of learning and technology experts work with organizations to develop custom training solutions to fit their needs. With over 20 years of experience, we know what it takes to develop an effective blended learning program fit for any learning style.

This article will define what corporate blended learning is and dive into 3 benefits of its use.

What Is Blended Learning?

Blended learning is a comprehensive approach to training that brings together multiple learning modalities to create a training program that works for every learner.

A blended learning program consists of any combination of instructor-led training (ILT), virtual instructor-led training (VILT), eLearning, video learning, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR). Such a program breaks up the potential monotony of a single training modality and accommodates your employees’ different learning styles.

We recommend a blended learning program for organizations looking to engage their learners in multiple ways, including:

  • Active, hands-on training
  • Independent learning
  • Digital learning
  • Role-playing
  • And more!

3 Benefits Of Corporate Blended Learning

1. Training Is More Convenient For Learners

With blended learning, learners can complete some of their training activities in a self-directed manner. Depending on the modalities and materials that are part of the blended program, learners can complete learning activities on their own time at their own pace.

These individual learning activities may include:

  • Completing eLearning modules
  • Reading articles
  • Watching videos
  • Self-reflection in a learning journal

Blended learning gives learners a sense of autonomy over how and when to complete their training activities by a set deadline. By utilizing digital learning in your blended program, it increases the level of convenience for learners scattered in different locations as they can complete their training according to their own availability.

2. Increases Engagement By Appealing To Multiple Learning Styles

While some learners may prefer to see someone demonstrate a task, others make sense of new information by completing the task through individual hands-on training. We all have our own preferred learning style, and with blended learning, your organization can offer a training activity that appeals to each learner.

In general, there are 3 main learning styles

  • Visual – Seeing the learning content
  • Auditory – Hearing the learning content
  • Kinesthetic – Being hands-on practicing the learning content

Blended learning provides variety in training activities that a learner participates in. For example, a learner that doesn’t prefer in-person role playing at a seminar will also have the opportunity to complete a more hands-on 360° VR activity. All of this is possible with a blended program that utilizes multiple training modalities.

By catering to your learner’s preferred style, you can entice them to engage more in their training program and provide them with learning opportunities in a style they prefer. With blended learning, there’s something for everyone.

3. Efficient Use Of Time And Money

A major benefit of blended learning is that in integrating multiple modalities into a single program, organizations can more efficiently use their time and money.

For example, an organization may traditionally use a 2-day ILT session for soft skills training. This program requires development time, costs associated with travel and materials (e.g. participant workbooks, facilitator guides, etc.), and time out of each learner’s day to participate.

With a blended learning approach instead, this organization could take 1 day’s worth of existing elements from the ILT and repurpose them into various formats, including short videos and eLearning modules. This cuts down the 2-day in-person ILT to 1 day, while also giving learners the opportunity to learn asynchronously.

By doing so, this blended program has become more scalable, accessible, and cost-effective. Learners can complete their video learning and eLearning on their own time from anywhere, reducing travel costs and time. In addition, the in-person ILT can focus more on experiential learning that has learners apply what they’ve learned to real-life roleplay scenarios or group activities.
